Entrance exam tutor groups
Entrance Exam Tutor Groups are about secondary school success, preparing groups of Year 5 and 6 children for secondary school entrance exams and the challenges they will face. JK Educate have found that JK 11+ Tutor Groups can offer a good alternative to one-to-one tutoring, where students enjoy working alongside their school peers and enjoy the social element of group tutoring. We have been working in successful partnership with London primary schools for over nine years, delivering specialist 11+ after-school group tutoring in years 5 and 6 at the school itself. We provide regularly updated resources and our expert focus on the ever-changing requirements of schools’ entrance exam procedures.
As an experienced educational professional in primary schools, JK Educate’s Lorrae Jaderberg has worked as an Education Consultant, Deputy Headteacher, Inclusion Manager and class teacher in London for over fifteen years. She has written and published several programmes for schools, which are used nationally: ‘Challenge at Home’ homework programme and ‘Social Skills for Primary Pupils’ for infants and juniors.
Since 2001, Lorrae has coached hundreds of Year 5 and Year 6 children and their families through the entrance exam.
The Entrance Exam Tutor Group is taught by specialist 11+ teachers. It starts in the autumn term of Year 5 for two hours after school once a week, offering comprehensive exam preparation in maths, English, and verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Included are reading comprehension, grammar and writing, together with mental maths, numerical reasoning and problem solving. Children also begin learning how to work with verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions and strategies. These are two hour sessions.
Children are expected to complete homework during the week in between sessions to secure new learning. Our aim is to help children feel confident and able to fulfil their academic potential by gaining places at their chosen state selective or independent secondary schools.
In the spring term of Year 5, the children continue with new curriculum coverage in maths, English, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. These are two hour sessions.
In the summer term, Year 5 children are introduced to a variety of 11+ exam papers, developing their exam techniques and skills, whilst continuing with new learning and revising curriculum. These are two hour sessions.
In the autumn of Year 6, the classes continue with weekly two hour sessions covering English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning exam papers and revision. Full support is offered to all children and parents during the preparation and exam period. We are always available on the phone to offer advice.
These classes have proved incredibly popular over the years and as a result of attending these classes, the children have achieved places at the secondary schools of their choice.

“Dear JK Educate Team, Having sat the 10+ entrance exam, our son Alex was offered a place at City of London School to start in September this year.
I would like to thank all of you for all of your hard work and attentive assistance. I would happily write a recommendation of your services.
Alex won’t be attending tutor groups anymore, although we would like for his brother Ollie, who is four years younger, to attend when he is old enough and ready enough.
Thanks again and all the best for the future,”
Richard Jones, Hampstead
“I don’t think there are actually the words to express how grateful we are for the help you gave us. I talked to Lorrae twice about pulling Caitlin out of the group and not taking the exams because the other children seemed to be doing so much better. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to her for dissuading me from that course of action. Now I can’t even believe that I thought that would be a good thing to do!”
Shona O’Neil, Finsbury Park
“Dearest ‘JK Ladies’ Lorrae and Denise, I’m not sure what you did in the last hour but it’s like I’ve brought a different little boy home !
Luke was so nervous coming in to your group but is so talkative telling me all about it – he genuinely loved it (to his surprise)!
Thank you both and see you next week!”
