Why have you chosen to be a tutor?
I find teaching stimulating, engaging and rewarding. I consistently form warm and lasting relationships with the families I work for. Teaching provides a nice counterpoint to the other side of my life, as a writer (I am a novelist and am represented by the London literary agency Greene & Heaton).

The arts: literature, film, theatre, visual arts. I love walking and being outdoors, animals, games of all sorts, swimming and travel.

I most admire the famous neurologist and writer Dr Oliver Sacks for the humanity and wisdom with which he writes about his patients and for the new understanding he has disseminated about people living with chronic diseases and disabilities.
To date, what has been your biggest achievement?
Writing a novel.
What has been a magical moment in your life?
I was in the Umbrian countryside recently, sitting on the edge of a small valley at dusk. As darkness fell, the entire valley came alive with dancing fireflies.
What is the quirkiest thing about you?
I cannot stop myself from approaching perfect strangers in the street if they have a puppy in tow, and asking to give the puppy a hug.
If you had 3 wishes, what would they be?
- To be healthy
- To be happy
- To write great books
