Tutoring For Children /The Good School Guide

Academic Assessments

At JK Educate we assess children individually fromĀ Year 1 (6 years) up to Year 8 (12 years), working with the children on a one to one basis. We are one of the very few consultancies and tutoring agencies that test potential.Ā  Our assessments allow us to test a childā€™s ability against the rest of their cohort nationally.

Our assessments are created specifically to help parents:

  • Understand the academic level a child is currently reaching at school and how they are doing compared to others nationally.
  • Identify their childā€™s academic potential and determine if they are currently reaching it, and if not then why not?
  • Identify their childā€™s suitability for the range of entrance exams for selective schools at 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+, 11+ and 13+.

Our assessments allow you to track your childā€™s progress at school, helping you to make key decisions about secondary schools and your childā€™s academic future. Our tests can provide a first step alert for specific learning difficulties and concerns. In addition, they measure your childā€™s suitability for specific entrance exams for selective secondary schools and will give you an indication of your childā€™s likely chances of success.

All parents want their children to go to the right school ā€“ where they will be happy and thrive. For some, this will be a competitive secondary school and for others, it will be somewhere more caring and nurturing. We will help you identify the right setting for your individual child.

We often find that while children receive good feedback at school and appear to be doing well, they are still some way off from reaching their potential.  Our assessments provide clear recommendations on how to move your child forward based on real data, to achieve their potential.

How JK Assessments Work

Your child will sit a range of tests; depending on their age, this can take from 1.5 hours up to 3 hours.  These tests provide us with a clear indication of the level your child is working at and key information about your childā€™s strengths and weaknesses. It also gives us a guide to their potential ability and whether they are currently achieving it.

Our assessments are marked by (and the feedback given by) senior teachers at deputy head or senior school leader level; our findings are written up in a detailed and bespoke formal report, which includes teaching recommendations and advice with suggested secondary schools. We spend an hour feeding back the findings in a face to face meeting with parents, providing opportunities to discuss the assessment in detail, ask questions about your childā€™s academic progress and the implications.

After the feedback, we discuss how we can best support your child with their preparation for secondary school transition. You will be offered the opportunity to use our tutoring services, if appropriate, with a JK tutor specially selected for your child.

We do not believe in tutoring children to get into a school that is not suitable for them. We tutor children to empower them to show their best in the exams, to go in with confidence and to have a positive experience.

It is vital that a child goes to an appropriate school. It can be as damaging for a child to go to a school which is below their academic level as it is to go to one which is beyond their ability. In both cases it is a difficult and challenging experience for a child. Thatā€™s why we always assess our selective entrance exam students before recommending the way forward.

Testimonials

The advisor was very impressive, precise and very easy to communicate. She gave me an elaborate step by step assessment of my daughter’s academic ability and made me understand how to proceed from this. It cleared all my confusion about the education system. Thank you for all the help.

Assessments

Taking Jacob for an assessment was definitely well spent money, as it enabled us to confirm some things that we already knew, plus you provided us with additional information which gave us food for thought.Ā  This was valuable as our planning for the academic future of Jacob, started to take shape based on more empirical evidence and credible advice.Ā  We will definitely recommend this service to others and use it again if appropriate.

I just wanted to write to thank you very much for the assessment you recently carried out for my daughter.

What you did was exactly what we needed.Ā  Your feedback has allowed us to better understand our daughter and her abilities.Ā  What’s more, the objective information you provided about different schools and what they look for has helped us to make a more informed decision about where to focus our efforts for secondary school applications.

I would not hesitate to recommend your services to anyone looking for an objective evaluation of their child or assistance in understanding their options. It seems likely we’ll be in touch soon for our son.

ASSESSMENTS

Everyone I have met so far has been very warm, approachable, and FOCUSED on what they’re providing for me/my child. I’ve felt that I’ve had their total attention. I’ve come away feeling confident in their abilities, knowledge and experience (which is what drew me in from the original talk by KK and LJ at Henrietta Barnett in March.) From what I’ve gathered so far, the approach of JK Educate is extremely thorough and comprehensive, and I sense I’d be well supported if our journey continues with you. All the above qualities register BIG TIME with us parents!

~ Caroline Fyldes, Barnet
